General Research Interest: T-cell leukemia & lymphoma, DNA methylation, development of the vertebrate adaptive immune system.
Student Participation:
Wide open. A student could run their own project under my supervision,
help out with existing projects in the lab or anything in between.
Projects in my lab span the range from molecular biology (DNA &
RNApreparation, PCR) to animal husbandry and genetics. We use zebrafish
as an animal model for most of our studies.
Background Needed:
None required; preference for students who aspire to doctorate level
training in the sciences, medical/dental school; experience with
molecular biology techniques a plus.

human cytokines treating infections and immunologic disorders.

assays of immunity in the test tube & in small animal models

The integrated physiologic and morphologic assessment of the embryonic
cardiovascular system using techniques (laser & ultrasound doppler,
servonull pressure system, confocal, SE and TE microscopy) to define
atrial, ventricular and arterial function.
Student Participation: To perform experiment including microsurgery under microscope on chick embryo, analysis,
computation of data and literature search.
Background Needed: Biological Sciences. (1/2 to 3/4 time during summer, and part time during school)
Outside Majors: Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Science but not necessarily required. Interested in research.

General Research Interest:1) Transcriptional regulation
of kidney development, with focus on intercalated and principle
cells in renal collecting duct. 2) Collecting duct specific
targeting of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease
gene using the Cre/Lox and FLp/Frt systems. 3) Transgenic
targeting of erythropoieten producing cells in the kidney.
4) Pediatric kidney disease database.
Student Participation: Gene construction, transgenic
mouse husbandry, transgenic mouse genotyping, transgene expression
analysis, kidney cell culture, RT-PCR analysis, immunocytochemistry,
cDNA cloning, database generation.
Background Needed: Basic laboratory skills pertaining
to molecular biology preferred but not necessary for lab project.
Familiarity with database design for clinical project.
Outside Majors: Biology, Chemistry or related.
