General Research Interest: HIV infection in intestinal mucosa. Tissue immune changes during HIV infection. Immune response to opportunistic infections.

Student Participation: Morphologic study with morphometry and immunohistology with confocal microscopy, cell culture work, quantitative nucleic acid and protein studies (Competitive PCR, ELISA, Western blots, etc.).

Background Needed: Experience with cell culture, histology, nucleic acid, or protein methods is desirable.

Outside Majors: Biology and related fields.

General Research Interest: Immunology & host resistance to bacterial infections, specifically immune responses to streptococci & use of monoclonal antibodies and recombinant human cytokines treating infections and immunologic disorders.

Student Participation: Work on cellular & humoral assays of immunity in the test tube & in small animal models of disease. Learn assays & develop their own research projects.

Background Needed: Basic understanding of science & biology.
