General research interests: Pediatric physical activity levels, fitness and health related outcomes. Interactions to increase physical activity levels.

Student Participation: Literature background, collecting data, entering data, developing and implementing physical activity instructions.

Background needed: Desire to learn process of research, desire to work with pediatric population, some basic exercise physiology.

Ouside majors: Pediatrics, nursing, health promotion and education, phys. therapy, ed-psych, nutrition.

Student Participation: Collecting data; recruiting subjects; developing and implementing physical activity interventions; evaluating program success; entering data; returning articles from the library.

Background Needed: Desire to work closely with people who were previously inactive; desire to learn the process of research.

Outside Majors: Most any.

General Research Interests: Cardiovascular physiology, vascular biology, diabetes, myocaschal ischemia, exercise. Go to ESS web page and look under J. David Symons.

Student Participation: Making up buffers/solutions, preparing vasoactive drugs, assisting with data collection/analysis, interpretation.

Background Needed: Willingness to work hard, learn and be reliable-we provide all training.

Outside Majors: I have had students from biology, chemistry, engineering, and ESS.

Key Words: Blood vessel, nitric oxide, ischemia, diabetes.
